Can You Wear White After Labor Day?

September 6, 2014 By Tiffany Nielsen Leave a Comment

We Can Wear White! Can I Wear White after Labor Day?

Great question! Here’s my official style proclamation; it answers the question that begs for an answer year after year.

How to Wear White After Labor Day

1. You can wear white clothing when the temperature outside is still hot. The temperature in my home town today is expected to reach 102 degrees. I’m wearing white!

2. You can wear white top, pants, shorts and jackets, etc… in various shades of white year round. Remember the movie Something’s Gotta Give with Diane Keaton?

The concept of not wearing white after Labor Day started when high-society American ladies could afford to purchase and launder white clothing. They would store their summer wardrobe after Labor Day in preparation for autumn and winter weather. Most of the country is very warm right now and I would advise not tossing common sense out the door for fear you aren’t in style. You are, so wear your whites, stay cool and then adjust your shades of whites when Autumn and Winter bring in cooler temperatures.

So, yes you can wear white after Labor Day!

To prove it, here I am before giving a poise and confidence workshop to the Miss Exeter candidates.

Now you know, and your friends and family want to know the truth behind wearing white after Labor Day.  Please share or I might feel this post was written in vain.

Thank you!

PS: Dedicated to my friend, Heather Robinson of Junk Drawer Gypsy.
