What is the Etiquette for Sending Invitations?

May 11, 2011 By Tiffany Nielsen 4 Comments

Dear Tiffany,

What is the timeline for sending out invitations?  I hear it is 6 weeks, but does that rule apply to all invites or just weddings?

Dear Party Planner Extraordinaire,

I wish I could come to your party because my instinct tells me you know how to organize a class act event. Likely your guests are busy bees like you; therefore, the more notice you provide, the more splendid a turnout you will receive.  Four to six weeks is a good guideline to follow not only for weddings, but any celebration. Be sure to provide necessary contact information and an RSVP.  Meanwhile, spread the word nicely that honoring RSVP’s is back in fashion. Viva la Fiesta!

Hi Tiff! I agree. The earlier, the better. If it’s a party with close friends and family, you can cut the timeline closer – 2 weeks to a month. Glad to see your blog. Cheers!

Thank you for your input! I’m going to try your two week recommendation and see how it works for me. Have a great day!

Hi, Tiffany, Save the date notices are also helpful if your party or event is at a busy time of the year.

Mom, You are right about those savvy save-the-date cards. I encourage everyone to use them when possible because the more notice the better!
