Man’s best friend, and in this case my sister’s and nieces best pal, was called home this past weekend. The family dog, Asa (named after Asa Buchanan from the hit daytime soap opera, “One Life to Live”) slipped away to his resting place.
My sister and her daughters adopted Asa from a dog sanctuary. In honor of him, my niece Payton designed sticky notes for each family member to wear following his burial.
Sweet Payton really knows how to dignify and remember those we love and who no longer can play with us.
Asa, looked like an Ewok-do you remember the characters from the movie “Gremlins”? His hair grew so fast that the groomer’s attempts to style this handsome devil didn’t stand a chance. His hunting instincts kept him manly and thriving in a stance that was no more than 12 inches tall. He was a typical dog when it came to the presence of cats too.
In honor of Asa, we wish him well on his journey. Our prayers for a safe return to heaven will not go unanswered. We grieve, we cry for our little buddy.
There comes a time when our pets, like us, are called back “home.” As my cousin Zachary says, “One day we are here, and the next day we are gone.”
Rest in peace to our sweet, beloved friend…
